Directions:
Lake Michigan Recreation Area is located in
Mason County, Michigan. The nearest community
is Manistee, about 13 miles northeast.
From the north, take US-31 south 10 miles
from its junction with M-55 in Manistee, then right
on Forest Trail 5629 for 8 miles to the site.
From the south, take US-31 north 11 1/2 miles
from its junction with US-10 at Scottville, then left
on Forest Trail 5629 for 8 miles to the site.
Trail Description:
The popular Lake Michigan Recreation Area is
comprised of family and group campsites that are
both scenic and natural. The Recreation Area
adjoins Lake Michigan to the west and Nordhouse
DunesWilderness Area to the south. Picnicking
opportunities, hiking on the arrowhead trail,
bicycling, and beautiful sandy beaches await the
outdoor enthusiast.

SEASON:
The season is from May 15 through October 1.
However, the area is open year around unless
closed by snowfall. Please check with the Manistee
Ranger Station regarding dates outside the summer
season.
FEES:
For the latest information regarding fees and
condition of the facility, contact the Ranger Station
at Manistee (231-723-2211 or TTY 231-723-0124).
The campsites during the summer season, allows
up to 8 people and 2 vehicles per site. The fee
changes for some campsites outside the summer
season. Group campsite are for up to 25 people;
and for groups larger than 25 people. For group
reservations, contact Reserve America at (877)-
444-6777.
The picnic area is a fee demonstration pilot
site. A vehicle pass is required and can be
purchased at the Manistee Ranger Station, the
Huron Manistee Supervisor's Office, and other
district offices.
CONSIDERATIONS:
Care should be taken to keep the area clean and
in the condition it was found, so visitors are asked
to please pack out what they pack in. Dogs Must Be
Leashed.
